Touted as one of the flattest and fastest courses in the world, the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon (VDHM) – a winter marathon held in Delhi provides the participants with a perfect opportunity to achieve a new personal best. Earlier known as the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon (ADHM in short), the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, with an AIMS-certified course & IAAI Gold label race certification, has been instrumental in making Delhiites embrace a healthier lifestyle and turn to running in large numbers

First organized by Procam in 2005, VDHM has become one of the largest events in the country attracting runners not only across India and neighboring countries but from across the world. Initially sponsored by Hutchison Essar/ Vodafone Essar for 3 years, Airtel held the sponsorship role from 2008 till 2020.

The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon route is akin to a world-class running track – with clean & sanitized roads, exhaustive on-route medical support, and huge volunteer support to ensure that the event is conducted smoothly. The race route takes the runners across a few of Delhi’s iconic landmarks like – Lodhi Garden, Jantar Mantar, and India Gate.

Over the years the event has consistently recorded the top five fastest HM timings in the world. Even running legend Eliud Kipchoge chose to run Delhi after his Rio Olympic gold and claimed the title for the Delhi Marathon in the year 2016. The event has been a springboard for Indian elites as well. Global sporting icons like Asafa Powell, Sanya Richards Ross, and Sir Richard Hadlee, amongst many others, have endorsed this prestigious event as ambassadors.

Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon also provides one of the largest philanthropy platforms in the country.

The following categories of races are offered during the event:

• Half marathon (21.1 km)
• 10km
• Great Delhi Run (Approx 4 km)
• Senior citizen run (3 km)
• Champions with Disability (3 km)

The last mass/public participation live event was held in 2019 and had 40,000+ participants with 17,000+ running the 5k Great Delhi Run. In 2020, the VDHM was held as a live event only for elite runners while a virtual run was organized for general participants. VDHM 2021 was canceled.

@ Below Time Eligibility criterion applicable for VDHM 2023 :

Half Marathon: Must have participated in Marathon, 25k, Half Marathon, or 10km race conducted on or after October 1, 2019, with the following eligibility criterion.

• marathon: 07:18:00 or faster
• 25k: 04:11:00 or faster
• Half marathon: 03:30:00 or faster
• 10k: 01:35:00 or faster

10K: While it is not compulsory for participants to apply with a timing certificate, if the participant wishes to get into a time specified corral group, then they can submit a timing certificate. Criteria is as follows. Must have participated in Full Marathon, 25k, Half Marathon, 10km, or 5km race conducted on or after October 1, 2019, with the following eligibility criterion.

• Full marathon: 06:54:00 or faster
• 25k: 03:58:00 or faster
• Half marathon: 03:18:35 or faster
• 10k: 01:30:00 or faster
• 5k: 00:45:00 or faster

Prize Money

Information about the prizes/ awards for the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2024 not available but below are details from the 2023 edition. All prizes were equal for men and women

Half Marathon

The top 3 Half Marathon finishers falling within the age groups* given below, shall be eligible for the following prize money:

• 1st position: INR 35,000
• 2nd position: INR 25,000
• 3rd position: INR 15,000

*Age groups (18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+)

10K

The top 2 10K finishers falling within the age groups* given below, shall be eligible for the following prize money:

• 1st position: INR 15,000
• 2nd position: INR 10,000

*Age groups (15-20, 20-25, 25-30, 30-35, 35-40, 40-45, 45-50, 50-55, 55-60, 60-65, 65-70, 70+)

Police Cup

The members of the top 3 Police cup team finishers (male & female teams), shall be eligible for the following prize money:

• 1st position: INR 45,000

Important Points

• Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable.
• Group entries are accepted for all race categories i.e. Half Marathon, Open 10K, Great Delhi Run, Senior Citizens’ Run and Champions With Disability categories. There shall be a minimum of 20 individual entries from the said participative categories to comprise a group and all members of the group must fulfill the minimum age eligibility to apply.
• Limited slots are also available for women runners and charity runners.
• Half Marathon and 10K Line up sections/corrals: Race corrals/ Line up sections assigned to runners depend on the timings submitted by the runners at the time of registration.
• Aid stations: Water and Energy drinks are available at aid stations.
• Medical and washroom facilities would also be available on the route/course as well at the start point and finish line of the race.
• Time limits are applicable for all the races after which the course would be open for regular vehicular traffic.
• Pacers are available for Half Marathon and 10K.
• Registration Surrender: Confirmed participants of Half Marathon who are unable to participate on race day due to unavoidable circumstances can surrender their bibs to Procam International. The application fees paid will be refunded post deduction of INR 300 as bib surrender processing charges. Confirmed participant can surrender his/her bib with effect from 30th August 2023 (1000 Hrs) to 15th September 2023 (1900 Hrs) by filling the bib surrender request form.

Procam Slam

Procam Slam is a running program that recognizes and rewards amateur runners for their devotion and hard work if they participate in all key Procam International-sponsored running events.

In order to become a Procam Slam Champion, a runner must finish four feature races within the specified time limit. These are listed below:

• TCS World 10K Bengaluru: The 10k race in under 1 hour 30 minutes.
• Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon: The Half Marathon in under 3 hrs 30 minutes.
• Tata Steel Kolkata 25K: The 25K run in under 4 hrs.
• Tata Mumbai Marathon: The full marathon in under 6 hrs 30 minutes.

Key points

• To begin with his/her Procam Slam Cycle, a runner can take part in one of the above-mentioned Procam events and then run the three Procam-sponsored distance running events that follow.
• The Procam Slam Cycle would be considered complete if the runner completes all four consecutive races.
• One would need to restart the cycle in case a race is missed. Then the runner must run all four Procam running events in a row without stopping.
