The Carlsbad 5000 – World’s Fastest 5K, organized by the National University, is a full-day event on the seaside of Carlsbad, California. Held since 1986, Carlsbad 5000 offers participants a day filled with not only road racing but also lots of fun and festivities.
The event caters to all ages and features individual 5k races designed for runners across abilities – from kids to the World’s Fastest Elite Runners. The runners and friends/ family can celebrate their race finish with music and entertainment at the Pizza Port Beer Garden and also visit the Health & Fitness Expo.
The USATF-certified course, primarily flat & fast, starts downtown and runs through nearly two miles along the Pacific coast with a finish at Carlsbad Village.
Other than the famous Carlsbad 5000 (5k) race, the event also offers the All Day 20K where runners collectively run a total of 20km by participating in four combined 5k events. There is also a kid run – The Junior Carlsbad – a race designed for kids aged 4-12 who can race either a 1-mile or half-mile distance on the Carlsbad 5000 course. Family members can line up along the course to cheer the young runners.
The Lucky Duck Foundation is the designated philanthropic beneficiary and any donations go towards their numerous homelessness programs.

- The course runs across two sets of railroad tracks which are active during the event. The train schedule is closely monitored and for safety purposes, races may be stopped or delayed anytime.
