The inaugural run of the Indian Oil WNC Navy Half Marathon was held on 13th November 2016 at the MMRDA ground (Bandra) in Mumbai to commemorate Navy Week 2016. While only about 5000 runners participated in the first edition, the event has grown exponentially since then with more than 15000 participants registering for the last edition held in 2019 (the 2020 and 2021 got canceled). These included more than 3,500 people from the Navy (both in and out of uniform).
The marathon is organized not only to promote physical fitness but also to spread awareness about the Indian Navy and to make the people feel like part of the maritime heritage of the country so that they can strive to stride with pride with men/women in white. The event’s motto also reflects this sentiment – “Matching Stride to Stride with Pride”.
The event offers 3 different Distances/runs – all are timed. These are as follows:
- Frigate 5K
- Destroyer 10K
- Aircraft Carrier Half Marathon
While the runs are open for all civilians (men, women, and children) including foreign nationals, there are minimum age requirements for the race categories -12 years for 5 kilometers, 16 years for 10 kilometers, and 18 years for 21.1 kilometers.

Important Points
- Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable.
- Water and refreshments are available at aid stations as well as the start and finish lines of the race.
- Medical and washroom facilities would also be available on the route/course as well at the start point/ finish line of the race.
- Time limits are applicable for half marathons after which the course would be open for regular vehicular traffic. Runners/ walkers are expected to finish in the following times:
- Half marathon : 3 hrs 30 min
- Pacers are available.
- Organizers advise slower runners to keep to the right of the road to let faster runners overtake from the left.

Yes timing certificate would be available for the Indian Oil WNC Navy Half Marathon
The official site mentions that “the fee covers your entry to the event, your bib with timing chip, access to race day facilities for registered participants and the following – Running T-Shirt, Medal, Timing E Certificate, Post-race refreshments, Goodie Bag”.

It is always better to start with smaller distances and move to longer distances only when you are well trained.
We would strongly advise you to get in touch with a certified running coach in your city who can guide you properly based on your fitness level.
You can also get in touch with some local running groups or read up online write deciding on running coach/running plans etc.

There is no specific age category run for 50+ years. For all 3 races (half marathon, 10k, and 5k), there is only a minimum age criterion specified by the organizers.

Tried attempting a number of times for registration for 5K category but was not successful, which can be verified from your data base.
The verifying OTPs were received from Saransh Ventures Pvt Ltd on 20 Oct , OTP no 2638, 4055 and on 05 Nov 22 were 1722 AND 5984 ( all FROM my MOB NO. 9870431527 and registered email id vksehgal6@yahoo.com )

You would need to check with the organizers by writing to them at support@indiarunning.com. Sometimes, some running groups/ brands have tie-ups with race organizers and for certain minimum numbers of members applying, they offer a discount coupon. But you would need to check with the organizers or with your running groups (if any).
