The United Airlines New York City Half Marathon, also known as United Airlines NYC Half, is an annual road race event featuring a half marathon held since 2006. The race event is administered by New York Road Runners (NYRR). It is a part of New York Road Runners’ Five-Borough Series.
The race is usually held on the 3rd Sunday of March, every year. Every year, about 25,000 athletes participate in this competition (24,645 runners participated in 2019).
The race also has fun virtual options available in the Virtual United Airlines NYC Half Powered by Strava events.
The route starts in Brooklyn, passes through famous landmarks such as the Manhattan Bridge, Times Square, and Grand Central Station, and ends at Central Park in Manhattan.

^The participants of the United Airlines New York City Half Marathon are usually divided into starting waves and corrals based on their anticipated finish time entered during the registration or recent fastest finish time. The HM runners are then released in multiple waves.

# Eligibility for entry to the United Airlines NYC Half will be guaranteed for NYRR members who complete four qualifying events in prior year and have an active membership by the last qualifying event 4 Out of 6 program (the NYRR Staten Island Half in October). The following races get counted toward 4 Out of 6 program qualification for the United Airlines NYC Half:
- NYRR Manhattan 10K
- United Airlines NYC Half (also Virtual United Airlines NYC Half)
- RBC Brooklyn Half
- NYRR Queens 10K
- New Balance Bronx 10mile
- NYRR Staten Island Half

Important Points
- Once a runner has claimed their entry, or once a drawing applicant has been accepted into the race, all entry fees are non-refundable.
- To pick up a race number, the participant needs to show photo ID and NYRR account QR code.
- Proxy bib pick is allowed if the person shows the Photo ID proof & NYRR account QR code of the participant as well as Photo ID for themselves during pick up.
- Full COVID Vaccination proof NOT required for all NYRR events including United Airlines NYC Half Marathon.
- Pacers would be available for timings starting at 1hr 20 min up to 3 hrs.
- Water, energy drinks, Gatorade Endurance gels, and other refreshments would be available on the route/course every 1.5mile/ 2.5 km. Water and refreshments are available to all runners post-race finish.
- Medical and washroom facilities would also be available on the route/course as well at the start point/finish line of the race.

I wait for non-guaranteed entry drawing for half marathon march 19 2023

Registration for non-guaranteed entry through the lottery for half marathon 2023 is not open yet. We will update our website once the registration opens.
I have been referencing this web site for weeks waiting to submit my entry (guaranteed through time run in previous Half Marathon this past year) but the web site still says, “Registration not yet open.” I just googled “When does registration for United NYC Half Marathon open” only to learn I have missed the window to register and get in the drawing which takes place on November 30th! I am so disappointed. I live in MN – am 67 years old, and was really looking forward to running this. Is there any way for me to still get registered??
