The Vienna City Marathon is an annual event held in Vienna, Austria since 1984. Starting with fewer than 800 participants in 1984, it is now Austria’s largest road running event with over 30,000 participants taking part in the day’s races.
The event is spread over 2 days and includes a Marathon, Marathon Team Relay, Half Marathon, a 5K run, Inclusion run and kids runs. Due to Covid-19, the 2020 edition of the race was cancelled and the 2021 edition was postponed to 12 September 2021

# Parental consent is required for participation in Marathon (if applicant is aged 16 & 17 years), Half Marathon (if applicant aged 14 & 15 years) and Marathon Relay (if applicant is aged 12 & 13 years)
## Relays stages are 15.5km/ 8.6 km/ 6.7km/ 11.395km with hand over points at 15.5km point (Linke Wienzeile / Schönbrunn), 24.1km point (Brigittenauer Lände / Danube Canal) and at 30.8km point (Meiereistraße / Stadion)

Limited information about the prizes/ awards for the Vienna City Marathon is available
The award ceremony is held for all timed events for the first three men, boys, women and girls (according to gun time). In the relay marathon, only the winning relay team (according to gun time) is honored on the main stage. For organizational reasons, there are no age group award ceremonies.

Important Points
- Bib collection: At the expo, the participants need to present their VCM pick-up confirmation email along with a photo ID to receive their race number. Another person can pick on participant’s behalf as long as they have the VCM pick-up confirmation email, copy of runners’ ID, power of attorney, ID of pick-up person.
- Transfer: Starting place is transferable to a friend at the Bob collection Expo by paying a processing fee
- Change of distance: Runners can change from marathon to half marathon distance during the race without prior notice. At the finish line they will receive a half marathon medal and will be listed in the half marathon results. However, there is no refund of the entry fee difference. Conversely, it is not possible to switch from the half marathon to the marathon.
- Dual event participation: Participants can run both the half marathon/ Marathon along with relay marathon as long as they have registered for both events and are wearing both bibs
- Aid stations: There would be staffed refreshment points / aid stations with water and Powerade (every 5 km), from 15 km onwards. Bananas would also be available. There would be additional water stations – some with and some without staff. Here you find detailed information about the catering facilities.
- Self catering: For participants in the marathon (42.195 km): Possibility of handing in drinks bottles for self-catering at the start number collection (no glass bottles, exact labelling required). Self-catering is located in the second position at the aid stations, after the aid stations for elite runners.
- Pacers: We will set up teams of two pacemakers each with these marathon finish times: 3:30 | 3:45 | 4:00 | 4:15 | 4:30 hours
- Tail runners: Official tail runners / tail walkers will take part in all runs on Saturday and Sunday, running and supporting participants to the finish line.
- There is participation limits for races : Vienna 5K = 3000 runners, Daily Mile 800 = 800 runners, Daily Mile 1600 = 1600 runners
- Time limit applicable on the course for after which the course is thrown open to normal traffic
- Full Marathon –6 hrs 30 min
- Marathon Relay –6 hrs 30 min
- Half Marathon – 4 hrs
- Vienna 5K- 1 hrs
